Abstract

The digitalization of society and the economy is forcing firms to radically rethink how their leadership and digital capabilities effect performance, particularly in the areas of innovativeness, sustainability, and business. Previous research discusses the importance the linkages between these issues, but there is a lack of collective understanding on the effects of their interaction, with most research approaching the topic from a technology, economic or organizational perspective. As a result, a research gap exists in the empirical understanding of how firm’s leadership and digital capabilities effect their innovativeness, sustainability, and business performance. The objective of this research is to advance the understanding of how firms are affected by digitalization, its role of leadership and innovativeness in this process, and the subsequent effects on innovativeness, sustainability, and business performance.
