Abstract




The purpose of this case is to show the basic principles and
ideas what can be done to intensify chemical processes which are considered
relevant in the context of Process Intensification. The process solution
presented here is meant to be useful for adapting similar process improvements
to different Pharmaceutical industrial processes.

The example case also takes into account an evaluation based
on Values of Engineers, Interests of Stakeholders and Beliefs of Society. The
example case is furthermore representative for innovations without making any
improvements in existing process equipment selection. The example case is
related to significant production increases in terms of production capacities
and reduction of production times. The chemistry of the PI case is a
substitution of environmentally difficult dealkylating metal chloride by dealkylating
using H2SO4.

The project target is production time decrease and
substitution of an environmentally toxic reagent by a non-toxic agent in a dealkylation
process.
