Abstract
The paper presents a Green Campus environment from the perspective of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging. The objective of the study is to evaluate the grid impacts of the EV charging in the Green Campus environment with different penetration schemes. The grid impacts are analysed by simulated cases, where a certain proportion of private cars used for commuting are replaced by electric cars (plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles). The simulation model is based on a stochastic approach. National Travel Survey (NTS) by the Finnish Transport Agency is used as the input data for the simulation because of the lack of actual measurements of the EV driving habits. Consequently, at least the following questions arise: How the load models can be used to provide smart charging schemes and what are the network effects caused by EV charging? To answer these questions, the charging curves acquired based on the results of this paper will be utilised in the optimisation of the Green Campus Smart Grid.
