Abstract

Active learning methods, such as inquiry-based learning, lead to better learning results than traditional methods, such as lecturing. An advanced electronics course in LUT University, Lappeenranta, Finland, was developed, and transitioned from traditional methods to inquiry-based active learning. Scientific articles were utilized in literature- and discussion-based inquiry, along with written tasks. Compared to earlier years, the students performed better in terms of grades. Furthermore, roughly half of the students felt their skills in writing, and interpreting scientific articles improved.
