Abstract

MSM alloys, such as Ni-Mn-Ga, are known for their ability to develop
recoverable strains due to magnetically induced reorientation of the
martensitic crystal lattice when exposed to a magnetic field [1, 2]. A
few studies investigating the possibilities of additive manufacturing
(AM) on processing of Ni-Mn-Ga based MSM alloys have been published in
the few past years, including the studies on 3D ink-printing [3], binder
jetting [4-7], directed energy deposition (DED) [8] and laser powder
bed fusion (LPBF) [9, 10]. The aim of the present research is to employ
LPBF to additively manufacture Ni-Mn-Ga, and further investigate
properties of the processed material in as-processed and heat treated
states.
