Abstract

A short-circuit protection method in a vessel DC distribution system was analyzed to ensure the safety of the system in DC short-circuit cases. The system is sourced by batteries and the grid is powered by power electronic converters. The loads in the system consist of the propulsion inverters and islanded converters. Time-domain simulations are proposed as the methodology of analysis for short-circuit protection and as the component dimensioning and design verification tool. The simulation was verified to provide accurate estimation of the short-circuit events and the system behavior.
