Research Interest
My research interests and activities are related to both numerical and experimental research on small-scale energy systems with specific focus on thermodynamics, waste heat recovery, turbomachinery, real gas modelling and CFD. One of the main focus area in my research are organic Rankine cycles (ORC) that are capable to convert heat into electricity. ORC process is based on the working principle of conventional steam Rankine process but an organic working medium is adopted in the system. ORC technology allows designing small-scale power systems in a power range from several kW up to few MW. In addition, unlike more conventional power systems ORCs are capable to utilize low temperature heat sources such as geothermal heat or waste heat from diesel engines, industrial processes or gas turbines and can provide significant opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and declining emissions in various applications. The research concentrates mainly on the working fluids, thermodynamics and design of high speed turbines operating with non-conventional fluids. My research interests and activities are also related to improving efficiency of marine power systems, gas turbines, steam turbines, heat pumps and energy systems adopting supercritical fluid states.
