Biography
Ms. Sc. (Tech.), Miia Liikanen is a junior researcher and a PhD candidate in the department Sustainability Science. Her area of expertise is in the environmental impact assessment of waste management systems and technologies. She has worked in various projects in the field of waste management and circular economy. In addition to research projects, she has gained experience in teaching. She has been an assistant in courses related to the environmental impacts of different emission sources and life cycle assessment. Her PhD research focuses on the life cycle assessment of waste management systems. The main objective is to explore the challenges related to the environmental impact assessment of waste management systems, and to identify the role of operational environment.

Research Interest
Research interests include environmental impact assessment methodologies and methods (e.g. life cycle assessment), waste management systems, and different treatment methods and technologies for side and waste streams.
