Biography
I have been working for Sustainability Science department at the LUT University in conducting and managing research projects related to waste management development and participated in teaching related to the field since 2008. During that time, I finished my PhD in Environmental engineering in December 2014 and during PhD studies, I was also working for Helsinki Region Environmental Services (HSY), in supporting the development of biogas utilization in transport sector in capital region of Finland and northern regions in Estonia. After a four year period as post-doctoral researcher I was given a position as an associate professor starting from January 2015 and the research work continues related to the circular economy issues.

During my career thus far I have been participating in teaching and supervising undergraduate as well as post graduate students. I have been teaching basics of waste management to undergraduate students in the course of Solid Waste Management Technology since 2008. I have been guiding and supervising several bachelor and master thesis. I have also supervising PhD students.

I have conducted research in three continents during the research exchanges during PhD studies and as a postdoctoral researcher. As a PhD student I investigated energy recovery potential from biodegradable waste in Lithuania at Kaunas University of Technology and environmental impacts of renewable biofuels production at the Energy Biosciences Institute in Berkeley, California. In addition, during the postdoctoral research visit to Zhejiang University (ZJU) in Hangzhou, I conducted research related to improving environmental impacts of Municipal solid waste management in Hangzhou.

I have participated and managed research projects including ARVI-material value chain project to which the research exchange to ZJU was related. Currently I am project manager in a seven-year EU Life IP project called Circwaste and Acedemy of Finland project called NITRO – advanced nitrogen recovery.

Research Interest
Research interests include system analysis, waste management, distribute energy and life cycle assessment. Specific topics include biodegradable waste treatment system analysis, biogas production system energy, waste to energy, nutrient and greenhouse gas balance, analyzing energy performance of biogas production system.
